Follow Your Dreams!

On the 31st May 2016, I finally took the plunge into the blogosphere and what a fantastic year it has been. In the last 365 days I have worked with some incredible brands such as Franchetti Bond and people such as Matt from Vits and Kicks I attended my first blogging event up in London for the Maison de choup launch and I have met some wonderful people on Twitter who never fail to inspire me. Blogging was supposed to be a creative outlet, a way for me to channel my thoughts and feelings. Never in a million years did I think it would grow to be something that has the potential to take me places I could never of dreamt of.

Despite the negativity surrounding the industry lately and a certain Cosmo post bringing everyone down, I am determined to continue my exciting journey, not for the followers, likes or freebies but because for me blogging gave me something money can’t buy – confidence and happiness. Because of blogging I have pushed myself out of my comfort zone and mixed with total strangers, I have been able to channel my love for marketing in my product reviews and it has made me realise that dreams are there to be pursued and to give us all hope.

I absolutely love reading these posts, so I thought I would share with you a few of my favourite fashion and beauty purchases from May.

First up is this stunning floral wrap dress from Primark for £13 which caught my eye because of its gorgeous ruffles and Latin inspired style. Initially I was going to wear this to the Maison de Choup launch but decided to opt for jeans and a top combo due to the poor weather that was forecast for my journey up to London. However, I will definitely be wearing this in Mallorca later this year with a pair of black strappy heels.

Life is too short to wear boring clothes.

Next up is a few impulse beauty purchases. After being pampered by the lovely ladies at my local Benefit Brow Bar and Urban Decay prior to my trip up to London. I decided to invest in the following products.

Urban Decay Total Pervision duo set £22

Urban Decay All Nighter setting spray £23.50

Benefit Gimme Brow £20

The great thing is I was also given a free makeover by Urban Decay after purchasing two products, this was particularly enjoyable as I was able to attend the MDC launch looking lovely and glam thanks to the lovely Louise.

Last but not least is this stunning tribal inspired print bikini from Accessorize. I really love bright colours and the pink tassels add just the right amount of sass to complete my beach look. I will be pairing this with a big floppy straw hat and a cheeky pina colada.

These are just a small selection of my latest favourites. If you would like to see another post like this then please do leave a comment. I hope you are all having a lovely relaxing Bank Holiday.

As a blogger it might surprise you to discover that as much as I love the world of social media, I am becoming increasingly concerned about the negative effects that if may be having on our mental health.

I know what you are probably thinking – surely ‘Twitter’ is a great way for me to engage with my audience and share my views with like-minded people. Yes! ‘Twitter’ is great for taking part in blogger chats and even making new friends. Yes! ‘Instagram’ and ‘Snapchat’ can be fun in moderation.

image

However, as we become more connected online and technology increases our ability to communicate on a global scale, it is also pushing us into an addicted spiral of tweets, snapchats, whatsapp messages, text messages, emails and consequently we are neglecting what is right in front of us – our loved ones!

Now I will put my hands up and confess I am obsessed with social media to the point I can’t eat my food at a fancy restaurant until I have taken at least one picture, I spend a good five minutes getting the perfect shot, angle, lighting just for a selfie and on a bad day I might even throw in a snap chat filter to look more blogger worthy.

image

Even after perfecting my social profile I then find myself unconsciously comparing my social life and latest purchases to those I follow on Instagram. The trouble is there is a fine line between admiration and an unhealthy obsession with constantly using social platforms as a means of benchmarking your major life events such as engagements or even having a baby against your friends.

image

Such addiction does make me wonder if this perhaps can contribute to a low self esteem that can often lead to poor mental health. Unsurprisingly, I discovered that many of you suffer with anxiety and/or depression. Here are some other interesting stats that I gathered on Twitter:

  • Out of 13 people 85% suffered with Anxiety and 15% with depression
  • 64% believe social media doesn’t have a positive influence on your mental wellbeing
  • 82% believe personality is what makes a person attractive followed by confidence at 18%
  • All of you either compare yourselves to other bloggers, friends or everyone on social media.

As much as I conducted these polls in an attempt to ascertain what the majority of you think, it has opened my eyes and made me realise that we are all our own tough critics and yet we don’t judge others by the standards we set ourselves.

Surely then we are setting ourselves up to fail right from the start? How can you possibly be taller, skinner, browner, more intelligent or like you best friend ‘Kate’ when you are the complete opposite! I for one am going to try harder to be my own best friend and live by my own standards and not anyone else’s. Live your life for you and be exactly who you want to be – not what society tells you to be or do.

On a more positive note, Blogging, technology and social media has also introduced me to all of you wonderful people and resulted in some fun Collabs. I wouldn’t change it for the world but I will change my unrealistic harsh views of myself and strive to connect with loved ones in the moment.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend and remember …..

sometimes you need to disconnect to reconnect.

When it come’s to 2016, it is not exactly a secret that it was one of those year’s that the majority of us would rather write off. Take show business for one, we lost so many legends from David Bowie, Alan Rickman to George Michael and Carrie Fisher.

From a personal perspective 2016 wasn’t all bad but I defiantly had a mixture of incredible highs such as my surprise engagement in Venice to Al and severe lows to being told I might go completely deaf by the end of the year.

One thing that last year has taught me is that life really is too short to stress over the little things and a great quote that I love to try to remember during difficult moments, is that “Difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations”.

What are you all looking forward to this year?

After a lovely weekend up in Manchester with family, enjoying glasses of red wine and consuming Indian, Italian and good old British food. I thought it was about time I caught up and did a few posts for ‘Blogmas’.

I think I am driving Alex mad with my enthusiasm for Christmas and feel like I am turning into Buddy from the film ‘Elf’, as every time we drove pass a house with lights on, I would literally jump with excitement and I couldn’t help but admire the Christmas trees everywhere I went.
